PTFE / technical overview

PTFE tapes

PTFE tapes help create a narrow non-stick surface or protect a stressed section of equipment without covering the entire area with a sheet.

PTFE sheet, tape or conveyor belt?

Choose according to the material's function in the equipment. For self-adhesive versions, also check adhesive suitability for the substrate and operating conditions.

Industrial tape for a contact surface

This category covers industrial PTFE tapes and strips cut from sheet for equipment work surfaces. It is not a guide to sealing plumbing threads. For a mechanically secured strip, choose a non-adhesive version; if you need adhesion to a substrate, see the separate self-adhesive PTFE tape overview.

Width, thickness and roll length according to the range

Mateos lists widths from 10 to 990 mm to specification and a standard roll length of 30 m. The tape overview includes thicknesses of 0.08; 0.12; 0.15; 0.25 and 0.32 mm. Availability of a specific combination of width, thickness and adhesive layer must be confirmed when ordering. Width should match the working surface; changing width alone does not replace checking thickness and attachment method.

Enquiring about tape for an existing machine

Send the original tape dimensions, a photograph of its installation, the contact surface temperature and a description of the material being processed. State whether the tape remains stationary or moves, and whether it contacts a cleaning agent. Check temperature limits and chemical compatibility for the selected product and, for self-adhesive tape, also for the adhesive.

PTFE tape and resistance elements in film sealing

In impulse film sealing, resistance wire or ribbon is used together with a suitable PTFE release layer. See the range of resistance wire and resistance ribbons. Choose the specific version according to equipment and working conditions.

Benefits and selection

  • Targeted use on narrow contact surfaces
  • Choice of adhesive or non-adhesive variant
  • Various widths for the specific application

Technical specifications to check

Specific values vary by product and variant. When choosing, compare:

  • ribbon width and thickness
  • adhesive layer or mechanical attachment method
  • substrate type
  • temperature and mechanical loading

Applications

Used on equipment contact and guide surfaces where lower adhesion or easier cleaning is required.

Dimensions and delivery

Determine tape dimensions according to the actual contact surface width. Roll length and available widths are listed for the specific product.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference compared with PTFE sheet?

Tape covers a narrower area and is usually supplied in rolls; sheet is more suitable for larger or shaped areas.

Can I stick the tape to any surface?

Adhesion depends on the substrate material and preparation. Check adhesive layer compatibility before ordering.
