Self-adhesive PTFE tapes

Self-adhesive PTFE tapes combine a non-stick working surface with an adhesive layer for attachment to a prepared substrate.

Two layers, two roles

The working side provides a non-stick surface; the adhesive side holds the tape to the substrate. Therefore, knowing only the PTFE name is insufficient when replacing worn tape. The machine substrate, tape thickness and conditions at the bonded interface also matter. The adhesive type is not identified in the verified product table, so it should not be guessed from tape colour.

Verified examples: tape 236 and pure PTFE 255

Adhesive tape 236 has a thickness of 0.08 mm, a length of 30 m, a surface weight of 155 g/m² and PTFE content of 67 %. The product lists temperature resistance of −150 to +260 °C. This is a product value; the table does not specify a separate adhesive limit, which must be confirmed for the particular bonded application. Pure adhesive PTFE tape 255 at 0.08 mm thickness has a 10 m roll length and offered widths of 15, 20, 30 and 50 mm. These two types have different roll lengths and constructions.

What to specify before ordering

Measure the required width and length, state the working temperature, substrate material and cleaning method. If the original tape is detaching, describe where and under what conditions it peels away. Do not infer the limit of the entire assembly from PTFE temperature resistance alone, or replace a mechanically secured part with a bonded one without verification.

Benefits and selection

  • Quick attachment without an additional fixture
  • Suitable for renewing a contact strip
  • Easy ordering by width and thickness

Technical specifications to check

Specific values vary by product and variant. When choosing, compare:

  • substrate type and condition
  • width, thickness and roll length
  • adhesive layer type
  • working temperature at the surface and adhesive

Applications

Typical applications include protecting and renewing surfaces over which film or another processed material passes.

Dimensions and delivery

Before selecting, measure the surface including the required overlap. Available widths and roll lengths are listed with Mateos products.

Frequently asked questions

What should I watch for when bonding?

The surface must be clean, dry and suitable for the selected adhesive layer.

Is the tape's temperature resistance the same as PTFE's?

The adhesive also determines the limit of the complete self-adhesive tape, so the specific product specifications must be checked.
