Kanthal in the Mateos range

The range includes Kanthal wires and PTFE-coated resistance wires. The category lists iron, chromium and aluminium alloys for resistance heating. Without identifying the specific alloy, it is incorrect to automatically call a replacement wire NiCr or assume the same resistance at the same diameter.

Verified example: 0.2 mm Kanthal, product 168

The product specifies resistance of 43 Ω/m, a maximum continuous working temperature of 1 300 °C, weight of 0.225 g/m and cross-section of 0.0314 mm². The temperature is a parameter of this particular wire, rather than a cutter setting or a guarantee for the entire heater. Resistance and permissible loading for a different diameter must be taken from its own specifications.

Heating and polystyrene cutters

The Mateos category lists use in heaters, furnaces and foam cutting. For a replacement in a cutter, send the machine type, diameter, working length, original wire resistance and power supply. For new equipment, attachment, control and thermal loading must be assessed. A universal wire for every cutter cannot be determined by the Kanthal name alone.
